Location: West Michigan
An owner of a service station had reached an impasse with an existing environmental consultant. Contractual pledges were not being met. Technical disagreement between the consultant and MDEQ and overall delays caused the owner to contact BLDI.
The BLDI project manager assessed the site data and BLDI agreed to conduct the cleanup. Discussions were held with the MDEQ and it was agreed that additional investigation was warranted which defined the extent of soil and groundwater impact. Soils were found to contain saturation levels of gasoline constituents. Groundwater impact was found to extend several hundred feet hydraulically down gradient of the site.
Upon completion of the investigation, the corrective action plan identified air sparging and soil vapor extraction to remediate the soil and groundwater. The corrective action is now approximately 90% complete based on current cleanup goals. These actions were conducted over a six (6) month period. The system is currently in operation completing the remaining cleanup.
