A client requested BLDI to conduct a monthly review of their remediation consultant tasks and costs. After an impasse was reached with the original consultant, and due to an impending deadline with MDEQ, BLDI implemented the work plan developed by the original consultant and took over overall investigation and remedy implementation.
Soil was found to be impacted in two physically distinct areas with two separate and distinct groundwater plumes. The remedy specified the use of ultraviolet oxidation system (UVOX) to destroy chlorinated solvents, including vinyl chloride (VC).
The original remedy was inadequate to address the full extent of groundwater impact. The impacted groundwater had migrated beyond the subject property, onto an elementary school, into a residential area and ultimately toward a local river. Additional purge wells and monitoring wells were required to address the impacted media and control the plume from migrating to the local river.
In support of financial disclosures, BLDI developed environmental cost estimates in compliance with AICPA 96-1. BLDI trained the owner and staff to operate the UVOX system to minimize operating costs.
