Sustainability
BLDI believes that sustainability indicators provide valuable information that can improve your ability to manage your business for maximum profitability.
Businesses can control their costs and reduce cycle time by minimizing the resources they use throughout the product lifecycle and by reducing the waste generated during production. BLDI believes in reducing our environmental footprint through resource minimization practices.
As part of our resource impact minimization program, BLDI has completed the following capital expenditures in the past three years:
- Replaced our building’s roof and dramatically increased the insulation to improve our overall building energy efficiency.
- Replaced our building’s heating plant with a much more efficient physical plant.
These two capital improvements have reduced our physical plant energy usage by over 50%. At the same time as we reduced our energy usage we also increased our overall building comfort due to improved ventilation.
In the future, we have a goal of increasing our fleet energy efficiency by 20% from 2006 to 2010. The increase in fleet per mile efficiency from 2008 to 2010 was over 40% through replacement of older vehicles with more energy efficient American-based models.
